Liv & Horace in Europe / Series

Liv och Horace i Europa / The Grand Tour 2016 & 2018

”A perfect mix of easy accessibility and cultural weight in Horace Engdahl's and comic series creator Liv Strömquist's journeys to personal favorites in cultural history. In the wrong hands, this could easily have been a failure, but Olavi Linna directs elegantly with both musicality and melancholy.
The subject leads straight to big, complex issues in life, which easily could have become too abstract for television.

”The series is soaring mile high over virtually all other competition.”

Olavi Linna directed and edited to seasons of the six part series depicting the former permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy Horace Engdahl and comics artist and writer Liv Strömquist on what in olden days was called ”a Grand Tour”.

A journey intended to cultivate the inner landscapes of the young and nobel, but perhaps also a longing for a time that has passed.

The purpose and goal of the journey is to relive the works of art that in their time offered - and perhaps still offers - answers to the big questions we have been and perhaps still are searching an answer for. Questions about love and hate, envy, transience, vanity, life and death.

The series premiered on Swedish National Broadcaster SVT in 2016 and has since been sold to YLE, DR and NRK.

Directed and Produced by Olavi Linna at ABHL for SVT.
